A few weeks ago, GOOD.is contacted us for an interactive project involving water usage stats. Our mission was to give life to the numbers and educate users about how much of a water footprint we create with our everyday habits. GOOD liked the feel of our 7summits infographic , it had the look they were striving for and they thought we were a good fit.
We given a cool moodboard with lots of bleed photography and geometric shapes.
We designed an interactive that takes you through a typical day and that adds up your water consumption with a counter. You can see the live version on GOOD.is
FFunction partnered with the National Film Board of Canada and independant web doc journalist Frederic Dubois to conceptualize an interactive feature for the documentary "Trou Story" by Richard Desjardins. The movie narrates the history of the high-profit mining industry in Canada. The interactive feature was a way to hype the movie and give the opportunity to movie viewers to continue their experience on the web. [View Trou Story Web here]
We created a storyline based on the mining cycle: from the $200 land claim to the closure of the mine. Users are invited to enter their postal code to experience the story of a mine. During the experience, users will trade hats (from prospective explorers to million dollar corporations) and learn about social, environmental and economical issues.
The site also features a section with more in-depth information about the mining industry and its issues. We created graphs to make the info more visual and rich.

We had the pleasure to partner up with New Media Strategies on an interactive infographic for the Ram Tradesman, a game-changer for commercial truck guys.
Tradesman blows the competition out of the water with, in some areas, twice the capability of similarly priced trucks. The objective was to generate awareness and excitement while giving commercial guys strong reasons to consider the Ram Tradesman. Commercial truck guys have an appetite for stats and features and want to understand and compare capability numbers and apply them to the work they do and the potential impact they could have for their business.
After an initial discussion, FFunction proposed to create an HTML5 interactive infographics that would both showcase the RAM Tradesman's features in a data-driven, visual way, but also let the user play with different parameters that define it's usage of an SUV (miles, truck load, etc) and interactively see what the RAM Tradesman could do for him.
We started by gathering data about the Trademan and its competitors: torque, engine, horsepower etc. Lucky for us, the numbers were favorable to the Tradesman.
From there we elaborated a 3-stage process interactive, starting with an overview of the RAM Tradesman's features, followed by stories on particular themes such as construction, landscaping and recreation, and eventually allowing the user to create a custom report on the money, time and gaz saved by the Ram Tradesman.
In the first section, the user is presented with an overview of the RAM Tradesman's specs. The numbers are always compared to something relatable to the Ram demographic, for example a V8 engine is similar to 6 hogs motorbikes. The numbers are also compared to 3 other competitors of the Tradesman.
We then wrote short stories highlighting the benefits of the Ram features in the perspective of the different targetted trades: construction, landscaping, agriculture, recreation. This allowed the user to narrow down on the characteristics that matter to him.
In the last section the user is presented with a number of parameters (miles travelled, truck load, etc) corresponding to his truck weekly usage. The user can see his savings in terms of time, money, gaz and miles when using a Tradesman as opposed to the 3 other competitors.
In this case the infographic was a good medium for conveying abstract truck specs. The interactive can both be used as an animated promotion material, where the communication is focused on facts and numbers, and as an interactive tool to understand the benefits of the RAM Tradesman.

As the developer of streamlined flight paths for airplanes, GE Aviation is remapping our skies to be more efficient, safer and greener. To highlight the benefits that airlines would see if better flight paths were implemented today, GE recently conducted a study, “Highways in the Sky,” and asked Edelman and FFunction to create summary report showcasing GE’s data in a visually compelling way that made sense to the everyday traveler. Through infographics and data visualizations highlighting the environmental and economic savings from these paths, a highly technical concept was quickly transformed it into something relatable.
